Huge congrats to Melanie Coram who is our AOTM for March! Mel has been part of the 5.30am crew at Morley for a long time. Consistently turning up with a smile and awesome attitude never turns away from a challenge and this showed when she hit all workouts for the 2017 open RXd. Hard work has got Mel to where she is today and cannot wait to see what the rest of year has installed for her. Let’s get to know more about Mel here;
Name: Melanie Coram
How long have you been at CrossFit Access Morley? 4+ years.
What do you enjoy doing outside of CrossFit? My kids and family. I would read a lot more if I had spare time.
What is your favourite and least favourite movements or WODs? Love power cleans. Could easily give up wall balls.
What your biggest achievement so far? Learning to squat. It’s not perfect but much improved. And not giving up when I felt like it many, many times. So many times.
What are your future goals? To get better at wall balls, to be able to do neat, consecutive T2B and pull-ups.
Tell us something we don’t know about you. I have two beautiful, very sporty, active boys. Crossfit brings me closer to them.
Who’s your box buddy? I have a few but Pauline and I have teamed up since I first started here. She continues to motivate me and keep me going.
Why did you start CrossFit – I was never good at sport, believed I was hopeless and hadn’t done any exercise for decades. I wanted someone to show me how to lift weights properly. It took a while to improve my sporting confidence but it’s something you can work at, even in your 40s.
What do you love about CrossFit Access Morley? The outstanding coaches mean all the information, tips, motivation and encouragement you need is right here. And who knew you could build a social life at 5.30 in the morning?
Any advice for anyone just starting their CrossFit journey? Concrete goals are essential but don’t tie your happiness to how heavy you lift or fast you run. Celebrate the process, enjoy turning up and doing the WOD, not just the outcomes.
