CrossFit is great for busy mums because… You are a Mum. You don’t have time for hours of exercise. It is hard enough being a person, then you go and add a helpless human into the mix (not the man-child!). You are busy with laundry, trying to take a pee on your own, pureeing food, attempting to feed helpless human, picking pureed food up off the floor and if that wasn’t enough, feeding the man-child. Nobody can expect to deal with that kind of madness and remain sane, without finding a ‘happy place’ to let off some steam. Enter CrossFit (well CrossFit Access to be specific – nothing wrong with shameless self-promotion now and then!) Why CrossFit and CrossFit Access in particular? you ask . . . No more boooriiing (please read in a ‘singing’ kind of way – it just sounds better) : CrossFit is constantly varied. That means that while you repeat individual exercises often enough to get good at them, what you do on a daily basis changes and involves movements that build strength, get you fit, and improve co-ordination and agility. Plus the coach is there to keep you on track, make corrections and keep you moving. You will do things correctly: There’s no showing you once and leaving you on your own here! Nope, we put you through a course to show you our basic movements and make sure your form is correct, then we continue to do the same in main classes. Correct form is essential, especially when you are in charge of keeping a household running (we all know that’s the mums aye folks) . . . gym injuries are common and the last thing you want is to go somewhere, get shown something once, then because you haven’t learnt it properly get an injury . . . trying to pick junior up when you have a stuffed shoulder isn’t pretty. New Friends (both inside and outside of Mummy realm): CrossFit is all about the feels. Becoming friends, becoming family. Everyone is in the workout together, taking and giving support when required (and taking the mickey too – it’s a light hearted kind of deal). Your new happy-place has smiles and laughs and high-5s and laughs and fist-bumps and laughs . . . Efficiency and Efficacy: No boring weight routine + 45 mins of cardio in a particular ‘zone’ here Mumma Bear! A mix of utilising weights that hit all the body parts, cardio in different formats and bodyweight exercises means your workout is as intense as it needs to be for gaining strength and fat burning, and it’s all done and dusted in an hour. But just because it’s efficient, doesn’t mean it isn’t effective. CrossFit utilises the exercises that train multiple body parts at once, making most use of the parts that Mums most often feel they want to improve the look of. Family Friendly Environment: Access is a Family Box. That means we welcome kids (including the man-child). Mums are big supporters of their kids attempts to learn new things . . . they try, come up short, get encouragement from mum, try again, get a little better, more encouragement – then Boom! Nail it!! Isn’t that message so much more powerful when your little person sees you learning, practising at something you find a little hard, then see your success??? And there is no bigger driver for you reaching a goal then when your little person is yelling “Go Mumma” . . . and we get to see that happening every day at our place! So . . . Fits your Time Table – tick! New, positive people to hang with – tick! Bang for your Buck – tick! Quality Coaching – tick! Can take the kids – tick! Perky Butt – on it’s way sister!
