Motivation – unfortunately it isn’t an infinite resource. So its why we need to FIND YOUR WHY. It comes, you get started with getting all fitness-freak, maybe it sticks around a bit. Life happens and your motivation seems to take a dive under the covers. Your workout mojo has gone! Don’t worry. You certainly aren’t alone. It’s not a YOU thing. It’s just a thing. And because it’s a thing and it is a thing that happens to everyone at some time or another, the best thing to do is plan for it! And the easiest way to get your motivation back is to FIND YOUR WHY. Your ‘why’ will never go hide on you, so it is a pretty reliable tool for re-mojoifying yourself (note that is neither a medical or psychological term). So, without wanting to totally nerd out on you, your working out actually needs a sense of purpose and self-awareness around it’s direction. After all, if you aren’t clear about what’s driving you or where you are going (which sounds remarkably like someones Granny behind the wheel of a Chevy Pick-Up) – – – then you’ll never have a sense of achievement from having ‘arrived’, and it is probable you will crash and burn along the way (bit like Granny in that Pick-Up). Yes, it is your ‘why’ is what will help you keep training, when the athlete within has gone a little flat. To ‘find your why’ you simply need to ask yourself just that a few times (because wanting to be a ninja / wonder woman / knight in shining armour, while very colourful, is unfortunately a little vague). Why am I training? I want to be like a ninja Why? Because they are strong, lithe and can do some epic stuff Why does this apply to me? My kid likes ninjas and I want to play ninjas with him Keep doing this for as long as you need to, until you nail down what really drives you to haul-ass a few times a week. Once you have screwed down your reason, set some benchmarks to achieve, to remind yourself you are on track towards epic ninja-ness. Eg. Row 500m in ???, Run 10 x 50m shuttles in ???, Get Chest to Bar Pull Up, Nail a free-standing handstand . . . or whatever levels are representative your making small, steady gains. If you need help with this feel free to give us a holler, we will set up an appointment to help you nail some things down. Then get busy! Period. Nothing else to say. Queue applause. Begin Ninjaness!
