If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say “I’m not fit enough to start CrossFit…” Anyways… to the point at hand!!! Is there anything better than to look at than a human who can throw around heavy stuff like it’s nothing, who moves at the speed of light, sweat glistening?? Well . . . there’s puppies playing, babies giggling and all the different coloured macarons with gorgeous creamy filling . . . hey, you like what you like, no judgement allowed! But we are talking about CrossFit and CrossFitters here. And whether they realise it or not, they are just like cake! Yes cake! Cake starts off as raw ingredients. Each of them doing nothing special, many of them not looking like anything flash. But combined together in the hands of an artist, and you get something fine, that is beautiful to look at, and just works!! Most CrossFitters did not start off as human machines. They started off as raw ingredients. Thinking the same as you do, that they are too unfit and not strong enough to come on board. However, something deep in their psyche told them to give it a go anyway and here’s what they found:
- We don’t chuck you in the deep end. We don’t expect that you can run before you can crawl, or do a split jerk before you can push a bar over your head safely. So you go through a Foundations course when you first start. All new people, all nervous people. All people who are starting off raw who just want to better themselves. We teach you the basics really well and make sure you are moving safely before you go anywhere near main class.
- CrossFit is for everyone, at any fitness level. Every exercise is scaleable. That means we can make it easier as required. Beginners work out at levels that are suitable for their current ability. We can make an exercise easier by giving you a part of it to do, decreasing the Range of Motion that the exercise requires, swapping the exercise out for another that you are able to do, making the load lighter, or decreasing the reps you do or the time you are doing the exercise for. There are a huge number of options available, to make the workout challenging enough for you without putting you at risk, or pushing you so hard that you don’t want to exercise ever again. CrossFit Access is about you exercising long term, not going hard core a few times then giving up.
- You won’t feel like you stand out. New people are starting CrossFit all the time, and we consistently have people in class who have medical or injuries that require us to alter the exercises for them. It is understood and expected that we do this for our members. It is our way of keeping everyone safe and happy. Because we do it all the time, even to people who have been coming a while, it is just a part of how we operate. Nobody pays any attention to what other people are or aren’t doing, because they are concentrating on what they are doing. At Access there are no egos getting in the way of people becoming better humans, so you won’t feel like you are getting ‘different’ treatment and stand out because of it, simply because you aren’t getting treated differently.
The worst mistake you can make is not giving it a go because you feel you are too unfit, too weak, too raw, because we have all of those tools available to us to build you up, to put you together. Let me challenge you now to a couple of months of giving it a go. Just a couple of months to see what we can make of the raw ingredients you possess.
