Huge congrats to our December Athlete of the month Joey! We have loved watching this cool Mum come in and work hard on her fitness, with such amazing results in six months! Joey is determined and her commitment to her training has been awesome. A regular at the 5.30am class who is a fun member to have that early in the morning and always a pleasure to coach. Joey is a perfect example of when you set your mind to something, shown up, the results follow. We can't wait to see what Joey achieves this year with her fitness and CrossFit goals and look forward to celebrating all Joeys achievements. Lets get to know more about this inspiring athlete here:
- Name: Joey Cookman
- Age: 30
- Occupation: Stay at home Mum aka quartermaster
- How long have you been at CrossFit Access? 6 months
- What do you enjoy doing outside of CrossFit? All things geeky, watching Doctor Who and playing World of Warcraft
- What is your favourite and least favourite movements or WODs? I am not a fan of skipping, burpees and thrusters. I love Clean and jerks and I can’t believe I am saying this, running.
- What your biggest achievement so far? Running 2kms and deadlifting 95kg
- What are your future goals? I want to climb a rope and box jump a proper box!
- Tell us something we don’t know about you. I have a twin brother who does Crossfit in Geneva, Switzerland
- Who’s your box buddy? Celia, Petrina and Janet
- Why did you start CrossFit? I was tired of being fat and unfit! I had tried the gym to no avail. I have tried dieting. None of these things motivated me. My brother and some friends have been doing CrossFit for a few years and I knew how much they loved it and being very competitive with my twin, I thought, what the heck, I will give it a shot, and here I am 6 months later, loving it!
- What do you love about CrossFit Access? I love how everything is tailored to you but at the same time you are being challenged and pushed to be a better version of you! I love how even though we are often working out as an individual it is very team focused and everyone is helping each other and encouraging each other.
- Any advice for anyone just starting their CrossFit journey? Just give it a go. It may seem scary at first and the idea of weightlifting might not be something you will enjoy, I promise you, you will! No harm in trying something new!
